An unnamed team from the Saudi Pro League is interested in Thibaut Courtois, who is Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper, according to rumors from Jose Felix Diaz (h/t RM4 Arab).
That particular Saudi club has reached out to Courtois to try to get him to play for them. But Real Madrid has made it clear that they don’t want to let him go because they see the Belgian goalkeeper as an important part of their present plan.
One interesting thing is that this is not the first time that Courtois has been mentioned with a move to Saudi Arabia.
Links with Saudi in the past
There were rumors earlier in the summer transfer window that a Saudi team was getting ready to make a big offer of about β¬70 million for Courtois. There was talk of a deal, but it never came together, and the goalie stayed at the Santiago Bernabeu.
It is important to note that Real Madrid would have turned down any offer, even if there was one.
In the past few months, Saudi teams that want to bring top players to the Middle East have been going after Real Madrid.
A player named Vinicius Jr. was also mentioned with a move to Saudi Arabia during the last transfer window, but he also chose to stay where he was.
The Courtois is likely to stay.
Courtois, he has a deal with Real Madrid that lasts until 2026, so he will stay at the club.
Andriy Lunin, who is the backup goalie, has been pushing for more playing time, but Courtois is still Carlo Ancelotti’s first choice in goal.
It’s not likely that the Italian boss will entertain the thought of losing such an important player any time soon. Real Madrid still values Courtois highly, and the goalie has a long-term deal with the club, so a move to Saudi Arabia doesn’t look likely at this point.
