Louis Saha, who used to play striker for Manchester United, thinks Erik ten Hag might want to make Karim Benzema a crazy deal. He does say, though, that this might just be a hopeful thought.
This summer, he went from Real Madrid to the Saudi club Al-Ittihad. He’s 36 years old. So far, he’s hit 12 goals in 20 games. Ten Hag won’t be able to make things much better in January, though. United has had trouble scoring this season.
People in charge of the club are worried about Financial Fair Play, so they don’t think much will be spent this time. They spent over £180 million last summer. So, they need to look at deals that offer loans or deals with low prices. Even though Benzema is old, he won’t be cheap because he has until 2026 to finish his deal with Saudi Arabia. United would have to offer a loan instead. He did say, though, that this might just be a dream. To him, Benzema is the player who could help United score goals right now.
He told AS that United needs a change in their attack right now, and Benzema would give them that. He’d make the team play better and score more goals. Karim is still nice, even though this is all just a dream.
United was interested in Benzema before he went to Madrid in 2009. It was also that summer that Cristiano Ronaldo left Old Trafford for Real Madrid. When he left Real Madrid, the French player had won five Champions Leagues and four La Ligas. In 648 games, he scored 354 goals.Sir Alex Ferguson has already talked about how close Benzema was to joining United. “We tried to spend Cristiano Ronaldo’s money on Karim Benzema because I thought he would be a better player at age 21,” he explained. Because he is tough, has a good body, and scores a lot of goals, it was worth it to go a little further for him.
It wasn’t worth that much when it reached £42m, though. I think that our offer of £35m was fair.
