With goals from Federico Valverde and Vinicius Jr., Real Madrid beat Villarreal 2-0 at Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night, which was very important.
Los Blancos were ahead for most of the game and looked like they were going to end the night with three points to cap off a great performance.
But things went badly at the very end of the game.
Dani Carvajal and Yeremy Pino, a star player for Villarreal, had a bad accident in extra time. Carvajal bent his knee fully to win the ball from Pino.
Unfortunately, the Euro-winning back overextended his knee during the play and fell down in terrible pain right away.
The player was seen screaming in pain on the pitch and couldn’t calm down.
He tried to get up, but his leg was so hurt that he could barely put any weight on it. He fell back to the ground and was taken away on a bed.
It was then seen that Carvajal was crying on the ground.
Worry about Real MadridThe injury to Carvajal looked bad in every way, and as is common with knee injuries, he may have to miss a few months of play.
There are already a lot of key players out for Carlo Ancelotti’s team this season, so they will be hoping that the right back can get better quickly and play again.
To be more practical, though, the main worry is whether the player has hurt his knee ligament or patellar tendon, which both need surgery.
The diagnosis will be confirmed by tests that are done tomorrow.
Obviously, Lucas Vazquez is now the centre of attention. He needs to play a bigger part in Ancelotti’s plans if Carvajal really did get hurt badly.
