Against Porto, the captain of the Red Devils was given a second booking for a high boot.
In the second city of Portugal, United quickly seized a two goal lead thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund, who both took advantage of mistakes made by custodian Diogo Costa.

The United captain was accused of a high boot on Nehuen Perez as he received a second yellow card
But before halftime, Porto stormed back with goals from Pepe and Samu Omorodion, a summer transfer target for Chelsea.
The hosts took the lead after another Omorodion goal prior to Fernandes’ insane outburst.
The captain of United, who previously played for Sporting, Porto’s bitter rival, entered the game late to challenge Nehuen Perez for a high ball.
The referee duly issued a second yellow card as the Argentine slumped to the ground, clutching his face.
Replays, however, revealed that Fernandes’ leg merely touched Perez’s arm and that his boot did not come into contact with the Argentine’s head.

Luckily, though, Fernandes’s former Manchester United captain was there to save manager Erik ten Hag from complete humiliation.
When all seemed lost in stoppage time, Harry Maguire, a substitute, emerged to head in an equaliser from a corner.
Fernandes saw red in two separate games in five days, both of which occurred in contentious circumstances. The first was against Porto.
He was sent off on Sunday during a 3-0 loss to Tottenham for a studs-up lunge on James Maddison.
However, video evidence later revealed that he had slipped into the tackle, and his red card was revoked.
He will be available for Sunday’s play at Aston Villa as a result of the FA’s ruling.
He won’t get a similar break for tonight’s red card, though, as UEFA regulations state that a second booking can only be reversed in situations of mistaken identity.
His absence from United’s upcoming Europa League match against Fenerbahce, the team of former manager Jose Mourinho, is the result.
