What Kylian Mbappe’s younger brother Ethan did in the Lille locker room after France beat Real Madrid was seen by many fans.
They shocked everyone by beating the European champions 1-0 thanks to a Jonathan David penalty in the last few seconds of the first half. The game happened on Wednesday night in the league part of the Champions League.
Madrid did not play with the normal winning attitude and conceded after Eduardo Camavinga was sent off for handling the ball in the 18-yard box. David scored the penalty.
The older of the two brothers, Kylian, is a new forward for Real Madrid. He was only healthy enough to come off the bench after 57 minutes to try to liven up a lacklustre performance by Real Madrid, but he too couldn’t make a difference.
Ethan, Kylian’s younger brother, also left his old team PSG this summer. He wasn’t in the gameday group because he hurt himself in Lille’s recent win over Le Havre however.
But even though he didn’t play, Ethan was very happy in the Ligue 1 team’s locker room after they won. He was in the middle of the camp’s happy celebrations and even seemed to lead a chant before his friends joined in by hitting their hands on a table and taking selfies to mark the event.
Ethan has played three times in the French top flight since moving from Paris to Northern France, but he hasn’t scored or set up a goal for Les Dogues yet.
In contrast to their opponents, Madrid’s players will have been unhappy with how they played. Manager Carlo Ancelotti didn’t try to hide how he felt in his chat with TNT Sports after the game, saying, “Today everything was quite bad.” We didn’t handle the ball well. We had a hard time getting the ball back. It was hard for us to switch. It was time for us to be more bold.
“It feels like it was hard for us to make today.” We moved slowly and didn’t have many plans when we had the ball.
“Our players need to go up and down the pitch more. The ball should not be hard to handle and should not get to the players slowly.
The loss is bad for Real because they have had a rough start to the season, but this early in their European run, losing shouldn’t hurt their hopes of moving on from the league stage as they try to win a record-setting 16th title in this competition.
