Sport Bild and iMiaSanMia have both reported that Arsenal has entered the competition to sign Florian Wirtz, a young player for Bayer Leverkusen.

The 21-year-old German defender is regarded by many as one of the top young football players in the world. Not surprisingly, Real Madrid is interested in signing him as well.

Arsenal, on the other side, has been watching Wirtz closely ever since they watched him play for DC Koln in his youth.Though his contract with Bayer Leverkusen isn’t expiring until 2027, there are whispers that Wirtz already knows exactly where he wants to go next.If he decides to leave the Bundesliga team, he wants to play for a side that can qualify for and win the Champions League.In addition, he wishes to be a member of a team that will allow him to contend for individual honours such as the Ballon d’Or. It appears doubtful that Wirtz will leave Leverkusen anytime soon at this point. Real Madrid, nevertheless, is said to be the heavy favourite to eventually land the midfield player.The likelihood that current Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso will succeed Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid if the Italian coach leaves is one of the main causes of this.Due to their tight working relationship, Wirtz and Alonso might have a significant impact on any prospective deal.Even though the upcoming summer transfer window is still a ways off, Real Madrid is presently said to be leading the race for Wirtz.
