Ex-Man Utd star Scott McTominay has been ‘tracked’ at Napoli after Italian press made clear their feelings about his debut performance

Scott McTominay, a former Manchester United midfielder, is reportedly being “monitored” by Napoli for a specific purpose, mere months after joining the team.

McTominay transferred from United to the Italian club during the summer transfer window for a reported fee of €30 million.

Last weekend, he made his complete debut for Napoli, starting in the 0-0 draw against European giants Juventus in Serie A.

Nevertheless, Italian media outlets have now reported that the Scot has been placed under observation for a specific action he has been taking at Napoli, despite his impressive performance in the match.

Italian outlet Il Mattino, via Calcionapoli24, has reported that the midfielder has been “under observation” regarding his diet, despite the fact that there are no concerns regarding his footballing abilities.

According to reports, Antonio Conte, the manager of Napoli, has instructed his staff to prioritise nutrition. However, McTominay has been identified as a player who requires particular consideration with respect to his diet.

The 27-year-old has been singled out due to his foreign origin and the club’s desire to prevent him from overindulging in Neapolitan cuisine.

McTominay has been advised to limit his consumption of dairy products, as this would result in an increase in his weight.

The responsibility of overseeing the diets of McTominay and other players at Napoli has been assigned to Tiberio Ancora, the club’s nutritionist, by Conte.

McTominay’s performances with the club thus far have also been a factor in his strict monitoring, as Napoli, fans, and the Italian media appear to have a positive opinion of the player.

According to Corriere dello Sport, McTominay was a “dominant all-rounder with a personality, technique, and physique.”

Calcio Mercato asserted that he was Napoli’s “next idol,” drawing comparisons to Edinson Cavani and Diego Maradona.

It is fair to say that he never received the same level of praise at Old Trafford, despite the fact that he undoubtedly improved during his time at United.

McTominay, who spent 15 years in the academy, joined the senior team in 2017 and subsequently made 255 appearances for Manchester United.

After his transfer was confirmed, McTominay stated, “I have thoroughly enjoyed it and am extremely appreciative of the football club. I am eager to embark on a new challenge and to fully embrace it.”
