Erik ten Hag needs to find a solution quickly if he hopes to save his job, as Manchester United’s midfield still appears fragile following their 0-3 hammering at the hands of Liverpool.
As was the case last season, Casemiro was swamped in the middle. Supporters are hopeful Manuel Ugarte’s arrival would provide the spark needed for a turnaround in the team’s performance.
However, Ten Hag has already indicated that the Uruguayan requires further time to get used to his new environment.
In light of Scott McTominay’s departure, United appear to be lacking in talent in the middle of the park, with Christian Eriksen unlikely to be the solution at this point in his career and Kobbie Mainoo appearing to need a break.
Need a midfielder
Although the manager wanted to sign Sofyan Amrabat, a former loanee, a deal for the player did not come through in the summer, which was INEOS’s original plan.
There have been recent whispers of a move for Adrien Rabiot and Yusuf Yazici, so the free agency market may offer a temporary fix.
In fact, ever since Ten Hag became leadership, the Red Devils have had the Frenchman as a target. But because of his salary demands, the move never happened.
The 29-year-old’s contract with Juventus expired in the summer, and while several European clubs have been enlisted to pursue him, no serious offer has been made.
According to the Peoples Person, Turkiye is also interested in Rabiot, but Cristiano Ronaldo wants him to join him at Al Nassr.
Galatasaray is pressing Rabiot for a move to the Premier League.Galatasaray has made a generous offer to him, but according to Teamtalk, Newcastle and United are still in the running. As a result, United’s name cannot be completely eliminated from the picture just yet. But the player’s salary demands would ruin a possible move.
The Glazers were big supporters of mercenaries, thus INEOS wanted to avoid recruiting players who were only searching for their last pay day while simultaneously lowering the team’s average age.
Despite an offer from Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray already being on the table, insiders tell TEAMtalk that Manchester United and Newcastle are still in the running to capture a top free agent midfield player.
“The player is presently stalling because he still wants to play in the Premier League, but the Turkish team has already made him an offer.
Rabiot’s demands might prevent a move.Following the sale of Scott McTominay, Casemiro’s poor showing against Liverpool, and Christian Eriksen’s current status as a marginal player, United has conducted internal assessments over a potential new free-agent midfield player.
“However, as Rabiot requests, the INEOS group’s strategies, which aim to gradually eliminate players who are around 30 years old and have excessively burdensome contracts, complicate the potential arrival of Rabiot.”
Although it is unlikely to happen at this time, Ten Hag’s choices would undoubtedly be improved by the former PSG star.
In the meanwhile, hopefully, academy product Toby Collyer can close the gap while Ugarte can get started right away and stay injury-free—something he appears to have done successfully thus far.
