According to a source, Manchester United is now hoping to sign Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain on a loan with a purchase obligation.
Ugarte is the top target for the Red Devils as they want to add a new central midfielder before the transfer window closes.
PSG’s insistence on demanding €60 million (£51 million) has prevented talks between United and the French champions from progressing in recent weeks.
As per Fabrizio Romano, United intends to experiment with an other ‘formula’ to get Ugarte without having to spend that amount this summer.
Ugarte will now be signed by United on a first-year loan, albeit with an obligatory buyout clause. Agent Jorge Mendes is in charge of negotiations, and back in July, Ugarte and his team agreed on personal conditions for a transfer to Old Trafford.
After midfielder Joao Neves joined PSG from Benfica, French publication L’Equipe originally stated in early August that PSG would think about loaning out Ugarte—but only if they received a sizable upfront payment in addition to a “high purchase offer.”
Despite adding four significant players thus far this transfer window, United has not yet improved their midfield options. Joshua Zirkzee, a striker, was the first player to leave, and Red Devils defenders Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui have since signed.
Zirkzee scored the game’s lone goal off the bench as United defeated Fulham 1-0 at home on Friday to get off to a winning start in the 2024–25 Premier League season.
While PSG began the Ligue 1 season with a 4-1 victory against Le Havre, they needed three goals after the 85th minute to secure the victory. Ugarte was left off of the matchday roster.
