The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) named four Arsenal players to the PFA Premier League Team of the Year at their annual awards event on Tuesday evening. After Arsenal’s great 2022–23 season, Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, William Saliba, and Aaron Ramsdale all got the praise they earned.
On the morning of August 21, the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) held a grand awards ceremony at the Manchester Opera House. Accordingly, Phil Foden was honored by the PFA as the best player of the year.
However, it is worth noting that Arsenal are the dominant team in the team of the year, with 5 appearances from 5 players, while Man City only have 4 positions.
The most impressive performer of the ‘Arsenal team’ must be Martin Odegaard.
The Norwegian midfielder had a hand in 18 goals for the team last season, including 8 goals and 10 assists.
Meanwhile, £105m new signing Declan Rice explained why Arsenal spent such a huge amount of money with his excellent performance on the pitch.
Arsenal’s defense was also honored by experts.
Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are the most compatible duo in the Premier League. They are maturing with each season.
Experts highly appreciate David Raya, who won the Golden Glove award last season.
Clearly, coach Mikel Arteta has a great squad of players and is ready to challenge Man City for the title this season.
Cole Palmer won the PFA Young Player of the Year award but failed to make the Team of the Year.
As expected, winners Manchester City had the most players on the team, with five, while Arsenal only had four. The rest of the team was made up of Kieran Trippier from Newcastle and Harry Kane from Tottenham.
The fact that four Arsenal players are on the list shows how good Mikel Arteta’s team was last season. It’s also the end of a long drought and the most Arsenal players named to the team since the 2010–11 season, when three Gunners were picked.
As a sobering reminder of how bad things were at Arsenal before Mikel Arteta took over, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was the last Arsenal player to be named to the elite end-of-year team. He was the only Gunner to make the 2019–20 Team of the Year. Hector Bellerín was chosen for the 2015/16 team before him.
Bukayo Saka was named to the Team of the Season and also won the PFA Young Player of the Year award. This is another great honour for the already renowned English star, who has been named Arsenal Player of the Season twice and England Men’s Player of the Year in 2021/22.
Saka is the sixth Arsenal player to win the award. The others are Tony Adams, Paul Merson, Nicolas Anelka, Cesc Fàbregas, and Jack Wilshere. Not bad people to hang out with.
The four winners of the Arsenal awards will now focus on Sunday’s big game at the Emirates against Manchester United. If they have any hope, they will put on shows that deserve the praise they get.
